Myo God Game

With a school-organized game jam, we decided to try to make something fun with the motion and muscle capturing Myo bracelet.

The Myo bracelet is a device you can use to control your computer and other devices using motion and finger gestures. It records muscle activity through sensors across the arm to detect when certain muscles are under tension. Using this information the bracelet can determine how your fingers are positioned relative to your arm or figure out which finger gesture you are making.

We used the Myo bracelet as the main controller in a game jam game we made as a group. The game jam was hosted by our school and the given theme was “New Tech”. The school gathered all of the available tools and technologies for the students to choose from, so you could choose one or more technologies to use in your project.

We chose the Myo bracelet along with the Oculus Rift to create a game in which you played a god-like creature, defending yourself against minions attacking you from all sides. To do this you had a whole range of abilities to use to defend yourself, varying from a wind tunnel to blow enemies away to a hand cannon to blow up everything in sight. The point we were trying to achieve was to make the player feel indestructible and powerful. We achieved this by making the waves of enemies larger and larger, but because all of your abilities are area-based, you could still finish every last enemy without too much trouble.
